PROGRAM OF THE MONTH

Joyce Lee of Canberra Secondary School in Singapore has created a “SARS Global Project, and  she would like to involve schools and students from around the world. The focal point of Joyce’s project is to examine the affects of SARS on a global basis. The project is divided into two main segments. The first segment is the collection of data, articles and research from schools taking part in the project. This could include photos, publications and other documents related to SARS. The second segment is the educational product that will be produced. Joyce’s goal is to produce a web page with photos and data explaining the project process as well as the publication of a book by her school. The time frame for the project begins in June with the project portion running from July until October. For a full description of Joyce’s SARS project, go to the PIE website (http://pie.mcvts.net) MESSAGE FORUM/GENERAL TOPICS and click on “SARS Global Project.” Once you read about the project, email Joyce and register for her project.
On a professional note, last October some of my students at Perth Amboy Tech HS (USA) took part in another project that Joyce Lee developed and implemented at Canberra Secondary School in Singapore. The results, due to the hard work and focused efforts of her students and Joyce were truly outstanding. From past experience, take the time and get involved with this newest project of Joyce Lee, the “SARS Global Project.”

PIE "TIP OF THE MONTH"

Do you or your students need to know what time it is somewhere in the world? If yes, then take a brief trip to www.timeticker.com for the timely answer to your question. This is an extremely user friendly website which permits the user to select a city or country form an extensive list of choices. Then “timeticker” will also provide you with a list of other cities and countries that occupy that time zone. Another exciting feature is the interactive world map. To determine the time and the area that a particular time zone occupies, simply click anywhere on the map for a visual display of the time zone along with cities and countries found in that region. So, take some time and visit www.timeticker.com, I am sure that you will be pleased with the results.

DIRECTOR'S NOTES

For many schools and PIE members around the world, the beginning of summer marks the beginning of a summer break or the conclusion of the school year. Summer in America is usually considered a point in time to rest. It is also an occasion to begin preparing for the upcoming school year. In other areas, this time of year marks the point where educators search for new ideas.  I would like to wish all members, educators and others who are on summer vacation or just a pause in the school year, a wonderfully relaxing time. I also would be neglectful if I did not thank all PIE members for your continued support of this program. Your cooperation and interests are the main reason that Project Idea Exchange has become the success that it is.  Please consider new and innovative approaches that you can create and share with other PIE members. If I can be of any assistance, please contact me at your earliest convenience.

To Everyone, Be Happy, Well and Safe!
